YOUTH CLAY

Pinch Pot Animal

Sunday, July 23: 6pm-8pm

Ages 13+
Location: Strand Center Clay Studio

Students will learn how to build an animal container using the pinch pot method. You will then apply underglazes for color and bring your animal to life! This class will be great for teens and adults of all levels of experience.

Textured Slab Mug

Monday, July 24: 6pm-8pm
Instructor: Ali Martin
Ages 13+
Location: Strand Center Clay Studio

In this class you will learn how to create a mug using the slab method, learn how to apply handles, and apply unique texture using different surfaces. Your one of a kind mug will then be completed with underglazes for color, and it will become your favorite mug to sip from! this class will be great for teens and adults of all abilities.

Clay Slab Nameplate

Ages 7-16
Location: Strand Center Clay Studio

After creating a basic shape and applying different textures to your slab, apply either your full name or your initials to the surface of your textured slab nameplate. Holes can be punched into the slab to create a hanging nameplate for a bedroom or door. Underglazes will be added for color, with a clear glaze applied later for shine.

Little Clay Village

Wednesday, July 26: 6pm-8pm

Students will use their imaginations and will be guided on how to create a hand-built village out of clay. A great display item for your favorite shelf! Get colorful with the application of underglazes. This class will be great for teens and adults of all levels of experience.

Get creative in this fun-filled week of clay! Students will be exploring a variety of clay techniques - both handbuilding and wheel throwing. Experiment with patterns, textures, forms, and glaze techniques, all while creating fun and functional ceramic works of art!

Similar to paper mache, paper clay is a wonderful material for artists to create sturdy 3-dimensional works of art. Students will get to make several pieces during this week-long art quest class. After constructing an interal structure (armature), students will apply paper clay to add details to their pieces which will include an animal sculpture, a mask, a fairy house, and a project of thier choice. Finishing touches will include various ways to add color with tissue paper and/or paint.

A. R. T. Musical Theatre Camp

Monday to Friday, July 17-28: 9am-12pm

Disney's Cinderella KIDS

Act, sing, and dance! Experience the excitement of live theatre on stage. Adirondack Regional Theatre’s instructors will work with students on the triple threat of Broadway (dancing, singing, and acting). Develop movement and rhythm skills, gain self-confidence, and improve teamwork and language skills through script and choral reading. The session concludes with a performance on the stage of the historic Strand Center Theatre on July 28, 2017 at 6pm for your family and friends.

$250 per student | Camp is limited to 30 student

Camp Spotlight!

Monday to Friday, July 31-August 11: 12pm-3pm

Ages 5-18
Location: Strand Center Theatre

Love to sing? It’s your time in the spotlight! Students will learn and polish the essential skills of vocal performance in this 2 week camp. Sing and perform as a group and soloists to spotlight your individual talents. A recital with costumes will be performed on August 11, 2017 at 6pm on the historic Strand Center Theatre stage for family and friends!

Young Actor's Improv

Saturday, August 5: 11am-1pm

Think on your toes! This class will keep students thinking creatively and reacting to their fellow actors. Through the use of improv games, teamwork and quick responses will guide students in developing a skill vital to any actor: improvisation.

YOUTH VISUAL ARTS

Make Your Own Mandala

Thursday, July 27: 6pm-8pm

The word mandala is Sanskrit for circle, and they date back to the 4th century, originally created in the Buddhist religion. The sacred geometry of a mandala is abundant in nature, Native American cultures, Christianity, Hinduism, and more. Mandalas are said to be healing both to creator and viewer alike. Learn how to create a beautifully drawn or painted mandala and experience the power of focus and healing.

Paper Mache Piggy Banks - 2 Days

Thursday, August 3 & Friday, August 4: 5:30pm-7:30pm
Instructor: Rayanne Canet
Ages 5+
Location: Strand Center Community Room

(Ages 5+) Day 1- Students will build their piggy banks using the materials provided and begin the paper mache process. Parents are welcome to stay and work with their children on this project! These will then be allowed to dry overnight.

Day 2- Students will be allowed to decorate and paint their dried piggy banks, creating a unique piggy to hold their coins!

Melted Crayon Art Camp

Monday to Friday, August 14-18: 9am-11am

Recycle crayons by turning them into works of art! In this week-long camp, students will apply and melt crayons onto a canvas while combining other painting and drawing skills. Create unique works of art that are unlike any other!

Clothespin Airplanes

Tuesday, August 15: 5:30pm-7:30pm

Students will be instructed in how to create an airplane out of a clothespin and popsicle sticks. They will then bring them to life with some paint. Parents are encouraged to join in the fun with their child and help them make a project the Wright Brothers would want to fly!

Lovebird Canvas

Tuesday, August 15: 5:30pm-7:30pm

This is a lovely painting of two sweet lovebirds sitting together on their happy little tree branch. This class is great for beginners and will be using acrylic paint on a 6x6" canvas. Your birds will brighten any room you display them in!

Homemade Bird Feeder

Saturday, August 26: 10am-12pm

Students will make bird feeders from recycled toilet paper rolls, bird seed and peanut butter. Make something the birdies cannot help but gobble up! Then get out your cameral and have fun spotting all the visitors your creation attracts when you hang it at home.

Create Your Own Dream Catcher

Join Ali in the Native American tradition of creating a dream catcher. Students will make dream catchers using simple everyday objects such as yarn, beads, and string. Feel free to bring your own natural objects such as feathers, small stones, sticks, or pinecones to add your own flair to your creation.

Take a branch, add some colorful yarns, a few tapestry stitches for texture, and a treasure or two and voila! You have a woven piece of art for your wall. Branch out with us during this fun afternoon! Feel free to bring small treasures of your own to incorporate into your piece.
