Buy Art with the Strand Center for the Arts

Brokerage Opportunities with the Strand Center for the Arts
The Strand Center for the Arts is always available as a resource to businesses and personal buyers as a broker to manage their artistic purchases. A broker is an agent who buys or sells for a principal on a commission basis without having title to the property. The Strand Center for the Arts is available in this manner to manage the collection of specific artwork and its sale for area businesses and personal buyers. The Strand Arts Center has worked with The Foundation of Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in this capacity to secure regional art for the hospital and improve the experience of both patients and visitors. As targeted floors of the hospital were being remodeled to enhance patient care, their art collection was updated as well. The Foundation requested a specific type of artwork and purchases were tailored to meet their requirements. Please see the specifics of these brokerages below.

For more information on brokerage opportunities please contact the Gallery Director, David Monette, by email at gallery@strandcenter.org, by phone at 518-563-1604 or in person at the Strand Center for the Arts at 23 Brinkerhoff Street in Plattsburgh, NY.

Strand Center for the Arts Working on a Brokerage of Artwork with CVPH

The Strand Center for the Arts is proud to announce that it is working with The University of Vermont Health Network - Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital to broker the purchase of works by local artists. The Hospital is purchasing work to install in the waiting room area of the Infusion Center. The Strand Center for the Arts will act as the broker for this purchase.

The area will feature a curated set of artworks based along a great outdoors/nature theme. Approximately 7-10 works will be purchased for this space. Artists of all mediums can apply, including photography, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and mixed media. Preference will be given to artists that adhere to the theme and follow the guidelines for submission. The deadline for submissions is Saturday, December 10 at midnight.

An artist can submit up to three works to be considered for the brokerage purchase. Artists can apply by visiting the SCA Brokerage page at www.plattsburgharts.org. When processing their submissions, artists must fill out the registration form on the website found HERE and email that form along with JPEGs of their work to gallery@strandcenter.org. Artists who are chosen for purchase will also have to fill out a current W9 form, which can also be found on the website.

March 2015 | Foundation of CVPH Brokerage 2 | Floors R5 & R6
UVM Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital and The Foundation of Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital have partnered with the Strand Center for the Arts to secure regional art for the hospital and improve the experience of both patients and visitors. Over the last year UVM Health Network – CVPH and The Foundation have worked with the Strand Arts Center to broker artwork purchases from local artists and galleries. This second selection focused on floors R5, the Oncology Recovery Floor, and R6, the Orthopedics Recovery Floor. Each floor now features curated artwork based on a specific theme. The theme for R5 is abstract art and purchased artwork will be displayed with work previously donated to R5 by patients and their families. The theme for R6 is outdoor recreation, which compliments their new Joint Care Center’s hiking theme.

Twenty pieces of artwork were purchased from 19 local artists to be installed on R5 and R6 in the hospital. Submissions were collected by the Strand Arts Center through a “call to artists” and purchases were decided through a series of meetings with The Foundation of CVPH staff. All of the artists selected for purchase reside locally in New York State.

September 2014 | Foundation of CVPH Brokerage 1 | Floor R3
The Foundation of CVPH partnered with the Strand Center for the Arts in the Fall of 2014 to procure regional artworks for the nursing floor R3. All of the works selected help to establish an Adirondack theme throughout the floor so when patients and staff amble through the halls of R3, they are now greeted with sublime landscapes and sunsets capturing the Lake Champlain region. Twenty-three artworks were purchased from fifteen local artists and installed on R3 this September. Submissions were collected by the Strand Center for the Arts through a “call to artists” and purchases were decided through a series of meetings with The Foundation of CVPH staff. A majority of the artists were from Clinton County. The artist farthest away was from Saratoga Springs, NY.
