The Strand Center for the Arts Drawing Group

The Strand Center for the Arts September 2014 exhibit featured works by the Strand Center for the Arts Drawing Group, which were on display in the Main Gallery from September 6th to the 27th, 2014. The opening event featured a live drawing class where guests were encouraged to participate and raffles were held throughout the night, for framed artwork. The opening reception was held Saturday, September 6th from 5:00-7:30 pm.

The exhibition will featured works by artists who regularly participate in SCA’s open studio figure drawing group. This supportive group setting is actively enjoyed by constituents of all artistic levels and ages who wish to improve their interpretation of the human form.

The open studio figure drawing group has been active for years, first initiated by Jackie Sabourn at the previous Art Center building across the street from the Strand Center known informally as “the old bank building.” The studio group has run continually for years, only taking time off for major holidays. These drawing sessions were run by Kim Berg at the previous location and then in the space over the North Country Food Co-Op. In recent years, Kim Berg has been joined by Shaun O’Connell and Tim Palkovic. The sessions are open studio, meaning that there is not a formal class but a group of enlivening artists who draw the model together.
