The Strand Center for the Arts was proud to host the exhibition “Portraits,” a fine art show featuring the works of various artists in the SCA Portrait Drawing Open Studio Group in the Main Gallery from November 7th to the 29th, 2014. The SCA Portrait Group is a fun, motivated and eclectic group of artists with a wide range of experience. They have been meeting at the Strand Center the past 5 years for a class focused on drawing portraits from a live model in a comfortable, casual setting.
Also on view during this time was the Annual Regional Juried Show “Home at Heart,” a fine art show focused on the themes of family, home, and comfort. Out of all of the submissions, 25 works by 13 local artists were chosen by the judges to be exhibited. The judges’ panel included Jim Carroll, SCA Board Member and owner of Overtime Photography, Ian Burcroff, Assistant Professor and Humanities Department Chair at Clinton Community College, and Eric Rucker, Adjunct Professor at SUNY Plattsburgh. First place was awarded to Lousie Pattinelli for her work Powder Room. Second place went to Denise Boule with Mina and Chloe Sleeping In and third place was given to Gail Morris for her work A Family Tree. Votes were collected all month, and the People’s Choice award was given to Connie Cassevaugh for her work Peach on a Cloth.
