The Strand Center for the Arts is excited to announce that two new exhibitions will be opening in August on Friday, August 7, 2015. The headlining show in the Main Gallery will feature abstract paintings by artist Louise Patinelli and new ceramic pieces by sculptor Jackie Sabourin. The Community Gallery will also be showcasing new paintings by Lora VanNoord. Both exhibitions will be on view in the Strand Center at 23 Brinkerhoff Street in Plattsburgh from August 7-28, 2015. The Opening Reception for both shows will take place Friday, August 7th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and is free and open to the public.
In the Main Gallery local painter Louise Patinelli has paired with sculptor Jackie Sabourin to create a stunning exhibit of abstract works and original pottery. Patinelli attributes her painting style to her ongoing study of art history, serial attendance at workshops in life drawing, watercolor and oil painting, and the guidance of her mentors, artists Paul Gatto and Claire Kindler of Long Island, New York. The new series of abstract paintings Patinelli will have on view channel the raw color and form of the Abstract Expressionist movement. This series reflects on color in a way that is reminiscent of artwork by Mark Rothko and Clyfford Still. Patinelli states, “My pursuit of independent study has inspired me to concentrate on the scope and range of artistic styles—from classical to contemporary. This approach has significantly influenced the development of my own personal and eclectic style.” More information about Louise Patinelli’s artwork can be found at her website, www.louisepatinelli.com.
Paired with Louise Patinelli’s abstract paintings are sculptural works by Jackie Sabourin. Sabourin has been instrumental in the local art scene, from curating exhibits throughout the North Country to founding the Jackie Sabourin Clay Studio at the Strand Center for the Arts.
In the Community Gallery artwork by Lora VanNoord will be on view. Eclectic scenes of Florida landscapes and country settings invite views of VanNoord’s paintings to accept the inherent beauty of nature. VanNoord has had several exhibits as both a solo artist and in collaborative shows across the Unites States, including locations in New York, Michigan, Nevada, Florida, Missouri, Maryland, Virginia, Texas and Illinois. When asked about what motivations her, VanNoord stated “Mother Nature is my inspiration. From birds and flowers to inspiring gardens, I paint them with the feeling I experience when I encounter them.” More information about Lora VanNoord’s artwork can be found at her website, www.absolutearts.com/lvannoord.
