Mother and daughter pair, Judy and Amy Guglielmo, celebrated 25 years of their artistic collaborations with a show at the Strand Center for the Arts. The exhibit, titled “25,” was on view in the Strand Center Main Gallery at 23 Brinkerhoff Street in Plattsburgh from October 9 to November 6, 2015. The Artist Reception will take place Saturday, October 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM and is free and open to the public.
Judy and Amy Guglielmo have become well known for their colorful shows that draw crowds from around the North Country. Exhibiting together since 1990, the duo has drawn insight and inspiration from each other and often collaborates on paintings. Amy stated that “My Mom [Judy] took a lot of art classes, and my Dad is very creative. There was always a lot of art around the home.” This family creativity helped to foster the artistic talents of both Amy and Judy.
Judy Guglielmo has been a resident of Plattsburgh for the last 46 years and states that her love of the area is primarily fueled by the beauty of Lake Champlain. By trade Judy Guglielmo is a real estate agent for local agency, Fesette Reality, but has studied fine art since her days in high school and college. Judy has been featured in numerous art exhibits throughout the years, including locations such as the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, the Depot Theater, the Adirondack Arts Association, The Strand Center for the Arts, the Adirondack Artists Guild, Clinton Community College, and SUNY Plattsburgh. Her choice of medium is watercolor and Judy states that, “I love the free flow of the medium [watercolor], the non-labored expression I achieve as I capture a mood. […] I try to combine all that I see – shapes, colors, and composition to express a total feeling.”
Amy Guglielmo is an award-winning painter and printmaker from Plattsburgh, NY. She studied art at Plattsburgh State University, Colorado College and The Tamarind Institute at the University of New Mexico. She is co-author of the popular Touch the Art children’s series (Sterling 2006, 2009, 2010) and is a freelance writer for various publications, including Adirondack Life magazine. A former teacher and the founder of Via Verde School of Art in New York City, Amy is currently the gallery director for Depot Theatre and serves on the advisory board for Adirondack Art Association and the Saranac Review literary magazine.
