Wayne Handley

Opening Reception: Friday, November 13 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM

Handley was educated at Michigan State University and Eastern Michigan University where he received a BFA in Fine Art and in Education.  He then had the opportunity to live abroad for many years; working as an English Teacher and a Graphic Designer. Handley has had numerous solo shows in the region, including locations such as the Bibliothèque Claude-Henri-Grignon in Longueuil, QC, ROTA Art Gallery in Plattsburgh, NY, Ici Par Les Arts in St. Jerome, Quebec, and the Rothwell Gallery in Ottawa, Ontario. He has also won awards for his work in children’s literature.

Handley stated that “In 2004, I spent the summer painting cityscapes of Ottawa and Detroit while I was attending the College. During that time, I developed my own unique style and technique for painting landscapes. […]I use a very unique style when painting landscapes. My style is based on my experiences as an airbrush artist. This technique is important in my paintings in that all the objects in my paintings appear to have a three dimensional quality to them.”

The artwork of Wayne Handley will be on view in the Strand Center Community Gallery at 23 Brinkerhoff Street in Plattsburgh from November 13 to December 4, 2015. Gallery Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
