“It’s the art of connection that fuels my organic works. Each piece is a gift, a bit of a surprise. As I create, my hope is that all stitches will connect. When they connect, the viewer can observe a continuous object that uses its combined strengths to hold together. This may be compared to the world around us, the ocean tides, a new garden, friendships. We may not know what the outcome will be, but we have faith that it will be exactly what it was meant to be.
I am obsessed with the reality of a single thread that, without question and with our combined strength, holds us all together. I experience this in my day to day living and demonstrate it in my artwork.
I am drawn to fiber… painting on it, weaving it, cutting it up and putting it back together, creating wet-felted wool fabrics and most recently, with great joy, creating organic sculptural embroidered art. It’s just thread.
This one thread is very powerful. It joins us but also creates open space for us to be ourselves while we support one another.
The only question this thread asks is: “How can I help?’”
“My embroidered art is created using a free-motion machine embroidery technique. Sewing on a unique and versatile fabric, I can create organic, embroidered structures that are later liberated from their base cloth. Designs may include solid stitching, lacy negative spaces, 3-dimentiional sculptural shapes, even a whole new fabric, the opportunities are limitless. Framed pieces are displayed suspended, inviting the viewer to be drawn into the depth and playfulness of
the shadows that are created.”
