Portrait of a Community Opening Reception

  • The Strand Center for the Arts 23 Brinkerhoff St Plattsburgh, NY, 12901 United States (map)

Please join us on Friday, Sept. 11th from 5-8pm for the opening reception of Portrait of a Community, a group exhibition featuring the works of five portrait artists with five different perspectives.

“We are a group of five portrait artists who have been working together for the past several years. We sit together with our subject for two hours, and then complete the works on our own, using photographs taken during the shared session. The subjects are people in the local community. Some are very well known, others more obscure. But each shines as a unique yet integral part of this place we call home. It has been a fascinating endeavor to see each community member portrayed from a different vantage point, and in a totally different style and medium.”

For these five artists, portraits have been a center piece in their artistic careers and this exhibition will showcase the hard work and time they’ve put into their project. Watercolor, charcoal and pastel, oil, graphite, and colored pencils are among the mediums used by the artists as they brought their portraits to life. We hope to see you here on Friday, Sept. 11th from 5-8pm to celebrate these talented artists as well as the community members whose portraits will be displayed! Perhaps your face will be on the wall!

Participating Artists: Naomi Bradshaw, Kaitlyn Jubert, June Levenson, Shaun O’Connell, and Cynthia Root.
